The Pocket Money Game is a free educational web application for UK children, created and operated by an independent developer. Our website is at www.pocketmoneygame.co.uk.
2. What Data We Collect
Parent account data
- Email address (used for account login and password reset only)
- First name (used for display in the app)
- A hashed PIN number for the Parent Area
- Your preferred pocket money rates and daily question caps
Child profile data
- First name (as entered by the parent — we recommend using a nickname if preferred)
- Age at profile creation
- Current game levels (spelling, maths, reading)
- Daily and lifetime score totals
- Spelling words answered incorrectly (the "struggle words" list)
We do not collect: surnames, school names, photographs, location data, IP addresses linked to user accounts, or any sensitive personal information about children beyond what is listed above.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect solely to:
- Operate and display the game correctly for your family
- Maintain your children's progress across sessions
- Allow you to access the Parent Area securely
- Send password reset emails (only when you request them)
We do not use your data for marketing, advertising, or any commercial purpose.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely in Google Firebase — a cloud platform used by millions of applications worldwide, with enterprise-grade security. Data is stored in the European Union in compliance with GDPR. We use Firebase's built-in security rules to ensure that each user can only access their own data.
5. Cookies and Tracking
The Pocket Money Game does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking. Firebase uses a minimal session cookie to maintain your login state. No analytics cookies are set. No advertising networks have any access to this site.
6. Children's Privacy (COPPA and UK GDPR)
We take children's privacy seriously. Children do not create their own accounts — all accounts are created and managed by parents or guardians. The data we store about children is limited to what is strictly necessary to operate the game (first name, age, levels and scores). We do not knowingly collect any sensitive information about children.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected information about a child in a way that violates this policy, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.
7. Adverts
There are no adverts in The Pocket Money Game. No advertising networks are connected to this application. No third-party companies receive any data from users of this game for advertising purposes.
8. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Object to processing of your data
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us via the game's feedback form. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (parent and child profiles, scores, word lists) is permanently deleted within 30 days.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by displaying a notice in the game. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
